The implants are used to treat pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence after childbirth, but some can cut into the vagina - causing severe discomfort. This implants can leave one in permanent pain and
damages the nerve. the perforation can be so severe that partners had been injured by the mesh during sex. Some women have been left in permanent pain, unable to walk, work or have sex. One called the implants "barbaric". The plastic meshes are made of polypropylene - the same material used to make certain drinks bottles - and manufactured by many different companies.
They are used to ease incontinence and to support organs such as the vagina, uterus, bowel, bladder or urethra which have prolapsed after childbirth.
Many of the women said they had never been told by their surgeons about the potential risks associated with the implants and that they taking legal action against the NHS and the makers of vaginal mesh implants, the Victoria Derbyshire programme has learned
Some women have reported severe and constant abdominal and vaginal pain following the surgery, and some have been told that they can no longer have sexual in her women have experienced infections and bleeding, while many have said their original incontinence symptoms have not been improved by the surgery. Some women who experienced problems said they were not aware the implants were permanent.
There have also been calls for an investigation into allegations that counterfeit materials may have been used in mesh implants in Scotland - claims that have been strongly denied by the industry.
Two women who were severely injured by commonly-used surgical implants have revealed their stories ahead of mass legal action against the manufacturer. Both women have been told they can never have sex again after having a surgical device implanted to treat a prolapsed bladder. The mesh implants hardened, causing injury to the women and potentially injuring their partners.
Hundreds of claims for damages are expected to be lodged.
