Ekiti community run for their lives as Fulani Herdsmen attack!

Another catastrophe struck residents of Ado Ekiti community as fulani herdsmen launch its attack on  them. The incident which happened on friday night had killed two people while

leaving six other injured. According to source, the fulani herdsmen had retaliated when residents of Oke Ako, Ikole in Ekiti state had restrained them from using their farmland for grazing their cows. The herdsmen in their large numbers invaded the community at night with dangerous weapons including guns, matchets, swords, daggers and struck down the victims, shooting sporadically into the air killing two people while six others who had sustained serious injuries are receiving treatment in a private hospital in Ekiti state.

One of the eye witness, who narrowly escaped, Ajayi, described the incident as a reprisal attack saying that the herdsmen had earlier had issues with the villagers over their continually grazing activities on their farmland.

Residents of Ado Ekiti also blammed the police in the area for not acting prompt when the incident was reported to them. One of the victim, whose wife had sustained injury told news men that the case was reported to police but the police failed to acknowledge them until their demand of #12,000 was met, saying that they had no fuel in their hilux van to move to the area.

But for the prompt response of a team of the Nigeria Army from Akure, the situation could have gone worse. The state Deputy Governor, Dr Kolapo Olusola, while paying a condolence visit to the community assured them that the government would take all necessary steps to avoid reoccurence.

Meanwhile, residence of Ado Ekiti out of fear were said to have been fleeing the town to neighbouring towns saying that the fulani herdsmen could stage more ferocious attack.
