Chaos at Maryland, Lagos, as hawkers and angry mobs
vandalize BRT buses after it knocked down and killed a hawker being chased by Kick
Against Indiscipline (KAI) officials on Wednesday. The
deceased hawker was caught crossing the Ikorodu
expressway without making use of a pedestrian bridge at the express when the
KAI officials chased him to his death after a BRT bus knocked him down the
road.
KAI operatives across Lagos state have over the years
developed a habit of chasing down pedestrians who cross expressways instead of
using a pedestrian flyover bridge. Whether the KAI operatives were justified in
chasing the hawker is a confusing and difficult question waiting to be heard by many.
Meanwhile, the Lagos state police have taken control over the area and calm
has been restored.
