Maria, 18, a Pakistan school teacher died on Wednesday after being set ablaze for refusing marriage proposal. Her attackers had drenched her in a petrol after beating her and set her ablaze leaving her to
die.
According to her uncle, Maria was baby sitting her five year old sister while her family went to a funeral in a nearby town when four men barged into her parents home. The family was alerted at the funeral, that Maria was on fire,their initial thought was there had been an accident perhaps a fire outburst or something not knowing it was a deliberate attack.
The young woman was taken to the Pakistan medical institute of medical science in Islamabad about 50 kilometers away for treatment where she died. ''There is no direct major road that passes through the village, we had to carry Maria on a chair to the closest road to get her to an ambulance'' says the uncle.
Three men has been arrested in connection to the death of Maria says the police officer. An arrest warrant is out for the fourth person, according to Murree police inspector.
